MT ZION COMMUNITY GARDEN MINISTRY

Grants and Resources

 

Mt. Zion Community Garden was awarded a $1,000 grant in 2021. The First State Resource, Conservation and Development (RC&D) Council offers mini-grants up to $500 to further its mission to “Provide leadership, initiative, technical support, and direction in developing and carrying out a plan to assist individuals and communities in the conservation and enhancement of their human and natural resources” and to work towards our vision of “prosperous diverse communities effectively developing and conserving the human and natural resources of the First State RC&D Area.”  Examples of funded projects include urban farm and community or school garden initiatives, invasive species management, establishing or improving community recreational areas, establishing pollinator habitat, or installation of rain gardens.

Kent County Levy Court Community Service Grant was awarded to Mt. Zion Community Garden for $500.  We applied for a grant for Kent County’s Fiscal Year 2023 which begins July 1.  Levy Court adopted that budget on April 26, 2022.  Award letters will be sent in July and the grant funds get sent in October.

National Council on Agriculture Life & Labor Research Fund, Inc. (NCALL)

As part of the Restoring Central Dover Initiative, Mt. Zion Community Garden partnered with NCALL to establish the Unity Community Garden Project which includes:  Mt. Zion Community Garden, Downtown DSU Community Garden, and Capital Park Community Garden.  For more information, go to:  https://ncall.org/restoring-central-dover/

 

 

Kent County Master Gardeners

In 2022, the Kent County Master Gardener program established an official Community Garden Project, which allows master gardeners to gain volunteers hours for working in community gardens.  The Statewide Master Gardener Volunteer Educators program has training programs, workshops and gardens located in Kent County, New Castle County, and Sussex County.
